The 10th European Zoo Nutrition Conference will be hosted by Marwell Zoo in the United Kingdom, January 17-20, 2019. Due to space availability most of the conference activities will take place at the Marwell Hotel, which is adjacent to the zoo. The biennial European Zoo Nutrition Conference is usually attended by around 130 delegates from about 20 countries, representing zoo nutritionists, veterinarians, curators, animal keepers, staff and students from higher education institutes and private individuals. The conference is a major event for information exchange between individuals involved in zoo animal nutrition in Europe. The conference will be preceded by an optional one-day EAZA Academy workshop which will take place on the 17th of January.
Marwell Zoo is a large zoo spanning over 140 acres with around 130 species of animals. Due to its location and space availability the zoo has historically always specialized in hoofstock species and still keeps herds of various species in its sizable paddocks. Furthermore there are a number of species of large carnivore, birds and small primates. The recently opened tropical house also provides a home for a variety of bird species as well as reptiles, amphibians and mammals. The zoo is open 363 days of the year, and in winter the opening hours to the public are between 10am and 4pm. Of course for those attending the workshop special arrangements will be made outside of opening hours where needed. The zoo is located between Winchester and Southampton in the south of the United Kingdom.

The registration fee for the EAZA Academy course, Feeding Meat and Fish; Quality, Nutrition and Presentation, on 17 January is €100 for EAZA/BIAZA Members and €125 for non-EAZA/BIAZA Members. (BIAZA Members, click here for instructions on how to register for the discounted price).

Abstracts are welcomed on all topics related to Zoo Animal Nutrition, both oral presentations and posters. Please follow this template when completing your abstract. Abstracts can be send to Marcus Clauss at firstname.lastname@example.org and the deadline for submission is 30 September.
The conference is a joint organisation by the EAZA Nutrition Group and the host, Marwell Wildlife.

There are various accommodation options available in the area, however when booking please bear in mind that there is no public transport to the conference location. If you do not have access to a car there are two hotel options available for which we have either arranged transport, or transport is not required.

A coach will be available to take people to and from the conference from this hotel. This also applies to the workshop held on the 17th. On the final day the coach will not take you back to the hotel but instead will perform drop off’s to the airport. Therefore please check out on the morning of the final day. There will be space available at the conference location to store your luggage securely.

The closest airport to the conference location is Southampton Airport. For delegates from outside of the EU, the largest international airport nearby is Gatwick (LGW).
If landing at Gatwick, you can take the train to either Southampton or Winchester, depending on where you are staying, and take a taxi from there. The closest train station to the conference location is Eastleigh train station, which is two stops along from Southampton Central and one stop from Southampton Airport.
If landing at Southampton airport, you can take a taxi to your chosen hotel. A taxi fare from the airport to Marwell Hotel will be in the region of £20. For New Place hotel this will cost more as it is further away. An option is to combine a train and taxi journey to keep the price down. The closest train station to the New Place hotel is Botley, which has a direct connection to the Airport Train Station (approximately £5 one way). The costs of a taxi from Botley train station is around £10.
If you are using the train, it is common practise to book your tickets in advance on a debit or credit card. This reduces the price significantly compared to booking on the day.

Whilst there is no public transport directly to the conference location, there are buses and trains (more information on trains is given in the arrival section) to locations nearby. If you choose to do this please bear in mind that bus services are limited on a Sunday. The 2 bus lines nearest are the 69 and the X9. The closest stop that Bus 69 provides is Fishers pond, which is approximately a 15 minute walk from the zoo. However no footpath is available and this will include walking next to a busy road. This bus does not go on a Sunday.
The X9 bus closest stop is Bishops Waltham Square. This bus has a limited service on a Sunday.

Transfers back to Southampton airport from the conference location will be available. These will depart on the 20th of January at 1.30pm and 4pm. Of course you are also welcome to arrange your own transport if you wish to leave at a different time. There will be a space available at the conference location to store you luggage securely on the final day.
