Maintaining a demographically and genetically stable as well as a behaviourally competent assurance EEP population that is also used to support different regions in (re-)building their populations.

Functioning as a charismatic ambassador for Indian wildlife and particularly for the Western Ghats ecoregion.

In November 2022, the Lion-tailed macaque EEP had 327 animals in 48 institutions.

Programme highlights

  • EAZA published the 2021 Annual TAG report. On pages 36-38 you can find the activities of the Afro-Eurasian Monkey TAG. 
  • Zooquaria issue 109 (Autumn 2020, page 16–17) features an interview with Tjerk ter Meulen (Afro–Eurasian Monkey TAG Chair) about the TAG's plans for the species under their remit.
