The Canid and Hyaenid TAG will review their Regional Species Plan in April 2026. Alongside coordinated population management, EAZA Members support conservation for canid and hyaenid species across the globe. Decisions taken in Brussels influence how the EAZA community can advance biodiversity conservation, animal welfare and animal health. As an official observer at the CITES Conference of the Parties, EAZA represents our community’s position and expertise, with a key focus, this year, on the international trade in wild-caught songbirds, building on the legacy of our Silent Forest conservation campaign. Each year, we ask our Members to record their contributions to conservation in the EAZA Conservation Database —an online platform designed to highlight and communicate the vital conservation work being carried out both within and beyond the zoo and aquarium community. Using this valuable data, we create an annual infographic that showcases the collective input of our community.

While most of us are gearing up for a warm summer, this Conservation Snapshot focuses on an Arctic species. The muskox was reintroduced from Greenland to Norway in the 20th century and found its way into Sweden on its own. The "Project Myskoxe 2030" is a conservation network aiming to study the Swedish muskox population, as well as its impact on biodiversity in the mountain ecosystem.
