EAZA Education Conference

The EAZA Education Conference is a biennial event. It brings together educators from across Europe and beyond for three days of presentations, workshops, and activities focused on sharing good practice and highlighting future trends in zoo and aquarium education. Regularly attracting 150-180 delegates, the EAZA Conservation Education Conference provides invaluable opportunities for educators to connect with each other and share their experiences.

EAZA Education Conference 2027 theme: From Connection to Impact

Education has the power to create meaningful connections between people and nature, between zoos and communities, and across sectors working towards a more sustainable future. But connection alone is not enough; we must also understand and demonstrate the impact of our work.

This conference will explore how education across the zoo and aquarium community are leading innovation, building partnerships, creating inclusive experiences, evaluating outcomes, and inspiring action for conservation. Together, we will share ideas, evidence and stories that move us from connection to impact.

Call for abstracts

Share Your Ideas, Experiences and Innovations

We invite educators, researchers, trainers and practitioners to submit an abstract for presentation at the conference. This is an opportunity to showcase your work, share lessons learned, and contribute to the exchange of ideas that help strengthen education, conservation and public engagement across our community.

We welcome abstracts that demonstrate innovation, impact, collaboration, reflection and practical application. Submissions should clearly relate to one of the conference themes listed below.

Conference Themes

1. Leadership: Leading the Way in Education, Innovation and Change

Exploring educational leadership in projects, programmes, strategy and innovation across zoo and aquarium education.

2. Demonstrating Impact: Evidence, Evaluation and Learning

Sharing approaches to evaluation, measuring outcomes, evidence-based practice and demonstrating value; the ones that worked, and the ones which didn't!

3. Cross-Sector Collaboration: Building Unlikely Partnerships

Working with communities, organisations and sectors beyond the traditional conservation and zoo networks to create something rich and exciting.

4. EAZA Campaign: Wetlands for Life

Engaging audiences with the current EAZA campaign through education, participation and conservation action. Share your involvement, the successes, the challenges and the lessons learned.

5. Accessibility and Inclusion: Creating Welcoming Experiences for All

Improving access, representation and inclusive practice in learning and engagement programmes and across your site.

6. Connecting Animal Programmes and Education

Strengthening links between EEPs, TAGs, animal care, welfare, training, conservation programmes and public engagement.

7. Making Connections: Inspiring Through Storytelling

Using stories, interpretation and emotional connection to engage audiences and inspire action for nature.

Submission Guidelines

When submitting your abstract, please:

Select one conference theme that best aligns with your presentation.
Clearly outline the aims, key messages and outcomes of your work.
Highlight any practical applications, lessons learned or recommendations for others.
Include examples of innovation, evaluation, collaboration or audience engagement where relevant.

Important Dates

Abstract submission deadline: 1 December 2026

All submissions will be reviewed by the EAZA Education committee. Authors will be informed of the review outcome following the assessment process.

Author Registration

Please note that at least one author of each accepted abstract must register for the conference and pay the applicable registration fee. Presentations that do not have a registered author may not be included in the final conference programme.
