Each year, we ask our Members to record their contributions to conservation in the EAZA Conservation Database—an online platform designed to highlight and communicate the vital conservation work being carried out both within and beyond the zoo and aquarium community. Using this valuable data, we create an annual infographic that showcases the collective input of our community.
In 2024, EAZA Members contributed an impressive €32.1 million, donated over 210,000 hours of staff time, and supported more than 800 species through a wide range of conservation projects worldwide.
With 235 Member institutions recording partnerships with over 500 organisations, these efforts reached across continents—from Asia and Africa to Europe and beyond.
In addition to insights on financial and staff support you see in the infographic on the right, the data from the EAZA Conservation Database also reveal trends in how our Members support conservation. Notably, the majority of Members recorded contributions in 2024 for projects with a multi-species approach. Initiatives for felids, small carnivores, habitat protection and conservation tool development, as well as reptile conservation were popular to support.
While many different organisations are supported by multiple Members, we see the following five organisations were supported by the highest number of EAZA Members in 2024:
Each of these organisations has strong connections to EAZA Members and often involves EAZA Member staff directly in their operations.
Together, EAZA Members continue to demonstrate the power of collaboration in protecting wildlife and habitats across the globe.
