Programme roles

Direct Conservation icon  Insurance
The EAZA population of Cervus hanglu bactrianus can develop towards an insurance for the in situ population in case this is needed in the future

Indirect Conservation icon  Model species
The experience gained from working with one of the biggest deer (sub)species Cervus hanglu bactrianus kept within EAZA can help develop and maintain knowledge and skills for the Hangul (C. h. hanglu) and the Yarkand deer (C. h. yarkandensis), which could be useful to share in the respective range countries if ex situ conservation activities are established.
