3rd JOINT TAG CHAIRS MEETING AND PARALLEL TAG MIDYEAR MEETINGS

On behalf of the WAZA Committee for Population Management, EAZA would like to invite all TAG (vice) chairs and colleagues with equivalent or related positions playing an active role in regional collection planning, to the third Joint TAG Chairs Meeting, hosted by Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden.

It is our true pleasure to invite you* to Hungary, and the charming capital-city Budapest, crossed by the Danube River. The conference will take place from 30 April - 4 May. The Joint TAG chairs meeting is scheduled for 1-2 May, with the parallel TAG sessions scheduled for 30 April and 3-4 May.

The meeting will be kindly hosted by Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, in Hungary. The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is one of the oldest animal collections in the world with its 150 years of history. The ice-breaker of the Joint TAG chairs meeting will take place at the conference venue. Conference delegates are offere free entrance to Budapest Zoo throughout the meeting period (29 April – 6 May). 

An optional pre-conference tour will be offered to Veszprem Zoo and Lake Balaton (29 April) and a post-conference tour to the Hortobagy National Park, including a bird watching tour and viewing Przewalski’s horses roaming on the Hungarian puszta (5 May).

Programme

Like the previous editions, this meeting will focus on developments and trends in population management across the zoo and aquarium community and its partners, as well as recent inter-regional successful initiatives and collaborations. The IUCN Species Survival Committee stresses the importance of conservation planning, conservation action, and conservation assessment. The role of TAGs as part of this ‘Assess, Plan, Act’ paradigm will be a key focus of this third Joint TAG Chairs Meeting. Exploring the relation between population management and animal welfare and population management developments in Southeast Asia are other key topics for the meeting.

Parallel TAG meetings

TAG members (or equivalent) in attendance of multiple of these parallel meetings may also attend the joint programme. We friendly request all TAG chairs (and equivalent) to liaise with their global counterparts to discuss agendas and consequently block a space for a TAG accordingly, by contacting katharina.herrmann@eaza.net

Evening Danube Cruise

Tuesday, 1 May 2018, 20:00-22:30

Meeting: 19:45 at Gellért Square, BKV Port (Liberty Bridge Buda side)

During this evening sightseeing tour on the River Danube, you will be welcomed with a drink and enjoy a light dinner served on the boat. During dinner a Hungarian jazz band plays the classics. The boat travels from Gellért Square to Margaret Island, along the National Theatre, Palace of Arts, Citadell, Castle of Buda, Parliament, etc.; a truly unique way to enjoy the glittering sites of illuminated Budapest.

Hungarian Cooking Course at Chefparade

Chefparade is a real hands-on school, where everybody does it all: cutting, chopping, stirring, grilling, sautéing, in his/her station desk. NOT just passively watching BUT doing. Be a part of the FUN and get ready for practice: learn to prepare a real Hungarian style dinner! Jó étvágyat!

Pub Crawl

Join us for one of the most unique Budapest experiences, a visit to the famous ‘ruin pubs’ full of retro decor, strange furniture, and looping art house cinema. Regularly rated as some of the top bars in the world, these former tenements and disused public buildings have been turned into squatter’s pubs and entertainment spaces of the new wave. English-speaking guide, public transportation and limited drinks are included.

Terms and conditions

Cancellation and Refund Policy

All cancellations should be sent to Registration Office in written form (golob@congressline.hu). All refunds will be processed after the Meeting via bank transfer.

  • 100% refund (minus 30 EUR administrative fee) in case of cancellation received before 30 March 2018.
  • 50% refund in case of cancellation received between 1 and 15 April 2018.
  • No refund in case of cancellation received after 15 April 2018.
  • If a tour has to be cancelled by the organisers (not reaching the minimum nuber of participants), full tour fee will be refunded.

All payments should be made in Euro. All charges due to bank transfers have to be paid by the sender. Payments sent after 23 April 2018 may not be confirmed in written form. In this case please bring the proof of payment with you to the registration desk.
