Programme roles

Direct Conservation icon  Insurance
The Chinese goral is one of the Endangered species held within EAZA though there are a few challenges to overcome before this role can be fulfilled.  The first priorities for this programme will be to clarify the genetic diversity through research. Additionally, husbandry experience with this species is needed. There is ongoing debate about the taxonomy and subspecies of the gorals.

Non Conservation icon  Exhibit
The Chinese goral is a species that can be a valuable addition to mixed species exhibits, as it is active during the day and can be combined well in particular with cranes and/or red panda in a habitat-focused exhibit.
