In the light of the COVID-19 outbreak being classed as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation, and in line with guidance from them and other sources, EAZA has made the difficult decision to cancel this event. We have been in contact with our host, and we intend to examine solutions that may allow elements of this meeting to proceed remotely by teleconference, or at a later date. We will be in touch with registered delegates to provide further details of how and when we will proceed with these activities and potential refunds.
EAZA Directors' Days and AGM 2020 will be hosted by Bergen Aquarium, Norway from 21 to 24 April 2019, with an optional aquarium visit on Friday 24 April.
Saving Species Together: Long term needs, short term pressures
The programme will look at the potential contradictions between the long view of collaborative conservation and the short-term pressures which face individual zoos and aquariums. In order to maximise the conservation contributions of their institutions, Directors need to face up to the localised pressures of funding gaps, activism, risk management, and a whole host of other immediate problems. Our speakers will introduce their strategies for reducing or overcoming these issues, so that they can take a longer term, more collaborative approach. The event will also feature the Spring Council meeting, and the Annual General Meeting, the main voting opportunity for Members of the Association to make their voices heard. In addition, a special event for Directors attending for the first time will be held to introduce them to the Chairs of EAZA Committees and help them get more from their active engagement with EAZA.
This is the premier forum for EAZA Member Directors to meet and discuss the strategy and direction of EAZA, and we urge all Directors to attend, network and influence.
The event takes place at the Hotel Clarion Admiral in downtown Bergen and is open to Director level employees of EAZA Member institutions of all institutional and organisational categories (inclusive of Full, Temporary and Candidate for Membership institutions (with a support letter from the respective mentor) and National Associations).
If you are entitled to register for EAZA Directors' Days 2020 you should have received a personal invitation by e-mail. For questions regarding attendance or registration please contact email@example.com
