Shellshock auction and raffle
A Shellshock auction and raffle were held in Bristol Zoo Gardens during the EAZA Annual Conference 2005 to give fundraising efforts a final push. All conference participants had been invited to bring items for the auction, with overwhelming results: huge numbers of turtle and tortoise related items were donated. It was impossible to auction everything piece by piece, thus only a selection of items was enthusiastically auctioned by Bristol Zoo's director Jo Gipps.The auction master-piece was a giant bronze turtle, generously donated by EAZA advertiser HMJ design. After a highly competitive bidding session, the turtle went to new EAZA member GaiaPark Kerkrade Zoo for €2,500. The auction generated €3,710 and a raffle, with the remaining items as prices, raised an additional €1,476.
