Shellshock news from Heidelberg Zoo
In order to make visitors aware of the problems turtles and tortoises have to face, and to enhance the willingness to help them, Heidelberg Zoo provides an educational exhibition consisting of three posters. A special box for donations is positioned in front of the exhibition so that as much people as possible get the possibility to help.
Furthermore, the exhibition can be seen as a kind of introduction to a special turtle-day, which is planned for 12 June. On this turtle-day, people will be informed about endangered turtles, measures taken to protect them and how they can help. On this special event day not only animal keepers but also a team of educational volunteers (the so-called 'Info-Rangers') will try to make people aware by personal contact, guided tours and some fun-events (like a turtle-race, tombola etc.). Hopefully the activities and info-team will convince a lot of people of the stern situation of turtles and tortoises, so that many donations will be made that day.
