Activities at Naturschutz-Tierpark Gorlitz
School children create art for turtles
Naturschutz-Tierpark Gorlitz has called in the help of school children to support the Shellshock Campaign. Therefore a Shellshock flyer was distributed amongst all schools in Gorlitz and Zgorzelec. The children were asked to portray their feelings and knowledge about turtles and tortoises in posters, drawings, games etc. Their products were to be sent to Tierpark Gorlitz before 10 May, so they could be used for an exhibition at Whitsun.
What actually arrived on 10 May was totally unexpected! The class room in the 'NaTIERkundehaus' was loaded with works from six different schools from Zgorzelec, Zawidów, Lauban, Zarska Wies and Sulikow. As of 16 May the wonderful works of art have been exhibited in the zoo. The many ideas and creativity of the school children have surprised and motivated the employees of the zoo.
The exhibited works of art also inspired other school children to participate in the project. As a result, the size of the exhibition almost exceeds the possibilities of the zoo. The children not only produced drawings, but also information packages, turtle stories, models and games. The turtle games are very special! The games have been invented by children and for children. The games are actually being played in the zoo, and highly appreciated by the participating visiting children!
