EAZA Tiger Campaign 2002/4Campaign efforts in Wilhelma Zoo
The Wilhelma Zoo, Stuttgart started the EAZA Tiger Campaign in spring 2003. An article in our zoo magazine (which is distributed for free) explained the background of the campaign, the way we participate and how visitors can contribute to support the project we have selected to support (1: tigers in Kerinci Seblat National Park).
Five large information panels were fixed to the walls of our tiger house: on tigers in general, on Sumatran tigers in particular, on the different factors threatening tigers in the wild, on the aims of the EAZA Tiger Campaign,
and the fifth information panel was designed by an eight-years-old girl, whose favourite animal is the tiger. This panel especially attracts the attention of many young and adult visitors.
Furthermore photos from the EAZA Tiger Campaign CD-ROM, the life-size silhouette of an Amur tiger, a board with press articles and other 'tiger news', a donation box and tiger foot prints connecting all this are placed in the tiger house.
Daily keeper talks include information on the campaign and on Sundays and holidays members of our friends-of-the-zoo-society present skulls, furs and so on, explaining the campaign. They also -very successfully- sell keyrings, badges and T-shirts to raise money for the campaign. The first amount of 1500.- has already been transferred to 21st Century Tigerīs bank account. Information on the tiger campaign can also be found on our website. |
