Campaign efforts of EARAZA
Six EAZA zoos in the region (Russia, Ukraine, Baltic countries) have officially registered for the tiger campaign. Four others have confirmed their willingness to join the campaign and have been asked to register as soon as possible. All the regional zoos have agreed to work together on the campaign. Given the date of the actual start of the campaign (April 2003), more plans are to be developed cooperatively, and EARAZA will certainly be involved in the preparation process, helping with communication and advice.The ‘AMUR fund' will sponsor production of leaflets and panels for participating EAZA zoos. The panels, leaflets and other materials (all the texts have already been translated into Russian and just need final editing) will be forwarded to the directors of the zoos prior to the next EARAZA annual meeting, to be held in Moscow in March 2003. The meeting will provide a better opportunity for sharing information and plans for running the campaign. It was also decided that all regional zoos would hold a ‘Tiger Day' on the same day in September 2003, which should prove beneficial in terms of the wide press coverage of both the campaign and the event. Otherwise, each zoo will follow its own programme of activity and events.
