EAZA Tiger Campaign 2002/4
Campaign efforts in Colchester Zoo
Colchester Zoo has set their highest fundraising target yet for the EAZA Tiger Campaign; £ 20,000 (€ 29,600) which will support two projects in the Amur Region.
Fundraising is extended outside of the zoo by linking with the local community. Local supermarkets have assisted by displaying information about the campaign and donation pots. Local schools have also taken an interest in the campaign and have offered to help fundraise for the tigers. A fundraising packet has been designed to give as much information on the campaign as possible as well as suggesting different ways in which organisations and individuals can help fundraise.
The zoo is selling miniature toy tigers for just £ 1. All money raised from this goes directly to the campaign. The tiger toys, carrying a label explaining that they are supporting the campaign, are already proving to be very popular with visitors. The tiger campaign key rings are also being sold.
Several special awareness events during the summer months are planned to help raise funds. The zoo will be hosting ‘The Big Cat Walk' fashion show as well as a special summer Russian theme evening event to promote the tiger conservation work that we are supporting in Russia. Educational materials such as tiger activity books and quiz trails are also being created to get younger children more involved with the campaign.
