EAZA Tiger Campaign 2002/4
Campaign efforts in Safari Beekse Bergen
Help of volunteers at Safari Beekse Bergen
Safari Beekse Bergen (Hilvarenbeek) supports the EAZA
Tiger Campaign projects in the Russian far-East. These
projects where chosen because of ‘Epos’, the Amur tiger in
our park. Safari Beekse Bergen has also been supporting the
Tigris Foundation in Amsterdam for years. This organisation
aims to conserve Amur tigers as well.
So far the park has collected over €14,000 by organising
several activities, including a souvenir stand, face painting and
a lottery. This year’s profit from the gift shop and the tips
received by the safari guides are also being donated to the
campaign. Most of the activities were realised with the help
of ‘Foundation of Friends Safari’, a large group of volunteers
connected to the park, and trainees of the Van Hall Institute.
Educating visitors about the importance of saving the Amur
tiger and providing information about the conservation projects
in Russia is also seen as very important. Many visitors
were reached through the different kind of education efforts,
leading to more visitors being willing to give financial support.
