EAZA Tiger Campaign 2002/4
Campaign efforts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
A total of 32 zoos and aquaria in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are participating in the
EAZA Tiger Campaign. The German and the Austrian Zoo Federations supported the
campaign and requested that their members participate. The poster and leaflet from 21st Century Tiger with information on the campaign have been translated into German language and printed for interested institutions. In addition to these materials many zoos have developed their own individual exhibition on tigers.
Stuttgart Zoo and Rheine Zoo as well as the Austrian Zoo Federation have designed detailed
information panels on tiger biology, conservation and the campaign. These panels are offered
to other interested zoos for printing and campaign use. The EAZA Tiger Campaign is also mentioned in zoo magazines and on several websites. The education departments integrate the EAZA Tiger Campaign in their zoo tours, workshops and educational programmes. Furthermore participating institutions are arranging various events, for example ‘Tag des Tigers' (Tiger Day) in Heidelberg, the ‘Tigerschutztage' (Tiger Conservation Days) in Vienna, and the opening of the new tiger enclosure in Leipzig where tiger conservation and the campaign will be in the main focus.
The Artists for Nature Foundation provided an art exhibition of twelve international artists who worked together in the Indian National Park ‘Bandhavgarh'. This exhibition will be shown in several zoos during the campaign to collect donations for the tiger conservation
projects. An interactive information exhibition on tigers, developed by ESSO, is travelling through some zoos during the campaign.
