Madagascar comes to Woburn Safari Park!
Woburn Safari Park is achieving great success with it's Madagascar Campaign in raising awareness and funds however the best is yet to come with a fabulous open evening with all proceeds being donated to the campaign. The Madagascar Evening with its subtitle of "Lemur Aid" includes a range of special activities which will include a dusk safari drive, auction, raffle and face painting, and in the park's new Two by Two restaurant, a special Malagasy dish will be served for those wanting a real taste of Madagascar. Of course, the real stars of the show will be centre stage - the lemurs at the award-winning walk-through, Land of the Lemurs.
Businesses have shown great support for the campaign with donations for an exciting auction which includes merchandise from the film Madagascar from Dreamworks, paintings by renowned wildlife artist Leon Evans and toy lemurs from Ravensden as well as high value VIP visits to Woburn Safari Park for exclusive tours and Adopt a Lemur packages. The evening will be promoted by the local radio station Horizon for the week prior to the event and supported by a live all day broadcast on the day. The popular costume character "Lisa the Lemur", drafted in especially for the campaign and has been a fantastic hit with the kids. Lisa will be dancing and giving out plenty of hugs in order to raise as much money, awareness and smiles as possible.
The success of this campaign has been attributed to a phenomenal response by staff, all of whom will be giving up their time free of charge for events such as the Open Evening. Everyone has joined in - most of the funds so far has been raised by a special Madagascar activity sheet for children, which was designed by the animal department. This is given out together with colouring pencils (kindly donated by Staedtler) in return for a donation of 50p or more. It includes a competition to hunt for eggs hidden in our award winning Lemur Walkthrough which spell out Rukh, an extinct Malagasy elephant bird, prizes are awarded to winners submitting correct answers who are then selected randomly every month for the duration of the campaign.
Land of the Lemurs is the focal point for the campaign, as it has been for a number of years for Woburn's fundraising and education efforts in support of AEECL and in housing three managed species (black and white ruffed lemurs, red bellied lemurs and red fronted lemurs). Woburn looks forward to raising lots more money for the campaign over the summer!
