Madagascar Campaign at Sóstó Zoo, Hungary
The Zoo in Nyíregyháza (Sóstó) is one of the most dynamically developing zoos in Hungary. Encompassing an area of 30 ha, it nestles in the middle of a 700 ha oak forest.
Special experiences were offered to all visitors that participate in the Madagascar campaign of the zoo in Nyíregyháza. While walking among ring-tailed lemurs (Lemur catta) and playful ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata) visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the unique wildlife of Madagascar. At the same time they could read about one of the world's most unique islands with the help of the information panels placed in the 'lemur forest'. Visitors were also informed about the threats to the island and what can be done to save it.
Visually disabled visitors were offered an even more special tour and had a lot of fun touching and petting the lemurs. Children in our summer camp learned about the colourful wildlife of Madagascar at our 'catta school', and they could turn into a catta or other creature living on Madgascar with the help of our face-painters.
Furthermore our crafts activities, with the topic 'the 8th continent' were incredibly successful. Many drawings, clay figures and textile bags were made promoting our campaign!
