    Madagascar campaign in symbols
The Madagascar campaign at Exmoor Zoo is going well and the zoo already reached a third of its target. Exmoor is one of the few participating non-EAZA zoos and many schools and groups in North-Devon are already on board and helping. One school put on a play called "the leopards drum", the proceeds of which were donated to the Madagascar campaign. The zoo has been doing a designated "Arovako i Madigasikara" talk daily to its visitors and it is also the subject of the zoos outreach visits.

To help with campaigns people need easy access to information, but many of our forms and leaflets can be extremely complicated and written language may not be understood by all people. Software company WIDGIT are leaders in their field for special needs software and pioneered the use of symbols and symbol software to support learning and the acquisition of literacy. Exmoor zoo has been working with WIDGIT this year to develop symbol supported signage around the zoo and to make the Madagascar campaign available to people that use it. Many of the symbols have been developed specifically for the campaign and may be of use to other zoos and aquaria.
