Children are the focus of the campaign launch at Bursa Zoo
Bursa Zoo began to participate in EAZA's Campaigns in 2004. After focusing on the Shellshock and Rhino Campaigns in the last two years, the staff of Bursa Zoo is now committed to the Madagascar Campaign. Educational posters have been prepared and the campaign brochure from the Education DVD was translated into Turkish.
The Madagascar campaign in Bursa Zoo was launched on 11 June with an official opening ceremony. The ceremony took place in the zoo's exhibition centre. Primary school children and Authorities from Bursa Municipality were invited. Mrs. Sila Smith and Mrs. Nalan Ertas prepared two presentations. Mrs.Smith gave information about the island of Madagascar and its species under threat. The children listened very carefully and asked many questions. Mrs.Nalan Ertas focused on the world's ecosystems and the threats facing our flora and fauna. Both presentations were aimed at raising awareness of the threats facing the island of Madagascar and planet Earth.
After the presentations the children watched the animated film "Madagascar" and were taken on a trip around the zoo. Further activities took place the following day. The visitors of the zoo can visit the Madagascar poster exhibition in a little wooden cabin. The press also showed a big interest in the campaign: Bursa Zoo's Madagascar Campaign appeared on TV and in the newspapers on several occasions
