Madagascar education programme in Badoca Safari Park
This year Badoca Safari Park (Candidate for EAZA membership) has launched a pedagogic programme for more than 75,000 school children, with 'The Discovery of the 8th Continent - Madagascar Island' as the main theme.

The activities within this programme include both our regular activities (safari, show with birds of prey and animal feeding sessions) as well as activities intimately related to the Madagascar theme:

  • Interactive show 'In Lemur Land'
  • Exhibition 'Madagascar -
       Discovering the 8th Continent'.
  • Lemurs feeding session

Next to this, we developed new sections on our website www.badoca.com/escolas/madagascar_01.htm, which aim to provide information about Madagascar. The contents is divided as follows:

  • Geology, geography and habitat
  • Unique fauna and flora on the Planet
  • Madagascar 'hotspot' - conservation priority
  • Madagascan people
  • Biodiversity threats
  • Solutions to preserve Madagascar
       - The new system of protected areas in Madagascar
       - Programme Sahamalaza from AEECL
       - EAZA Madagascar Campaign

The 2007 Badoca Safari Park pedagogic programme was submitted to the Portuguese Ministry of Education, who evaluated and considered it of high pedagogic interest. The Ministry highlighted the didactic focus and its scientific approach to the ecosystem's functioning and preservation. The Portuguese Ministry of Education made its sponsorship to the programme official by signing a cooperation protocol with Badoca Safari Park. This protocol recognises the educational interest of the pedagogic programme and envisages the visit and the awareness spread of the Park in Portuguese Schools. The Badoca Team is really proud of the Protocol, as this recognises their efforts to raise awareness about Madagascar. The official information issued by the Ministry of Education can be assessed in: www.dgidc.min-edu.pt
