The 9th European Zoo Nutrition Conference will be hosted by ZOO Liberec in Czech Republic, January 26-29, 2017. This biennial conference is attended by 100-200 delegates from about 20 countries, representing zoo nutritionists, veterinarians, curators, animal keepers, staff and students from higher education institutes and private individuals. The conference is a major event for information exchange between individuals involved in zoo animal nutrition in Europe. It will be preceded by an optional one-day EAZA Academy workshop on the feeding and formulation of preformulated diets.
The conference is jointly organised by the EAZA Nutrition Group and our host, ZOO Liberec.

Preformulated Diets: Feeding and Formulation (Thursday 26 January: 0900-1700)
The EAZA Academy course 'Preformulated Diets: Feeding and Formulation' is aimed at zoo staff with responsibility for nutrition and animal diets, academics working in the field of zoo animal nutrition, anyone with an interest in the field.
The aim of the course is to provide a practical and theoretical explanation of the use of preformulated diets for zoo animal species. The course will enable participants to make informed choices about their use of preformulated diets, and to understand how to work with manufacturers to create appropriate diet options.

Liberec is located in the north, 100 km far from capital city Prague. You can travel to to Liberec, by shuttle, car or bus. Getting to Liberec from Prague by public transport is simple and easy, see below for more information.

It is advised to take the bus to Liberec (65 min, €3.80). Buses go from Černý Most (From Prague Airport take Metro line B to Černý Most , click on the image below). Ticket automats are placed at the bus stops or inside the metro stations (look for the yellow machines). A bus ticket can also be used in the metro. You should buy a ticket for 32 Kč (€1,20 , only Czech coins are accepted), a ticket is valid for 90 min.

At Cerny Most take bus line Regiojet number 6, From: Prague Černý Most, To: Liberec Fugnerova-Blažkova. You can buy a bus ticket directly at the bus stop or online.

If you travel by public transport, it is advised to obtain Czech Koruna at the airport through ATM or the exchange offices.
Conference delegates will receive a three-day ticket during the time of the conference.
Liberec is the fifth largest city in the Czech Republic. Settled by German and Flemish migrants from the 14th century until their expulsion after World War II, Liberec was once home to a thriving textile industry and hence nicknamed the "Manchester of Bohemia". Liberec is well known for several historical and architecturally significant buildings.
Mount Ještěd is a symbol of Liberec region and at the altitude of 1012 m also dominates North Bohemia. Ještěd was built by architect Karel Hubáček in 1968. It was awarded the Perret Prize for its unique architecture and became a national cultural monument and the building of the century. This unusual structure in the form of a hyperboloid, which houses a hotel and a television transmitter. Make your stay even more enjoyable by visiting its restaurant, or climb to its peak and delight in wonderful views of the entire Jizera Mountains. Here you will find also a modern ski area, a snow park on a European standard, a cross-country circuit which has hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships, a ski rental facility, and a children’s play area.
Liberec's another prominent buildings are the Town Hall (1893), the Liberec Castle from 16th century and Neo-Renaissance F. X. Šalda theatre (1871-1872).
Attractive for tourists is Centrum Babylon Liberec, which includes a large water park, an amusement park, a casino, shopping court and hotel. This entertainment centrum is adjacent to IQ Landia, which is focused on science in interactive form.
The EAZA Nutrition conference will take place at the Zoo Liberec. Zoo Liberec is the oldest zoological garden in the Czech Republic founded in 1919. Dominates of this institution is a collection of birds of prey and bovid mammals. One separated part of the zoo is environmental centre Divizna, a centre for animals in need and a cultural centre Lidové sady.
Zoological garden adjacent to The Botanical Garden, which is the oldest one in the Czech Republic and it is now over 120 years old. This garden also cares for the richest collections of exotic plants in the Czech Republic.
