    Princess kisses frog:
Xenia von Sachsen supports Year of the Frog at Zoo Leipzig
On 2 May 2008, a hundred school children and twenty kindergarten kids experienced an unusual and modern version of the Frog Prince fairy tale at Zoo Leipzig. Princess Xenia von Sachsen was invited as ambassador of the EAZA Year of the Frog 2008 Campaign. Princess Xenia loves amphibians and demonstrated this to the children with a symbolic frog kiss.

According to zoo director Dr. Junhold, "the princess stands for dynamics and future thinking", which explains why the young princess was asked to support the Year of the Frog initiative which is to create worldwide attention for the amphibian crisis. With her engagement the princess joins Sir David Attenborough's commitment, who acts as Patron of the global amphibian campaign. "Frogs should enjoy the same lobby for environmental protection as sea mammals or large cats", said Xenia von Sachsen. The zoo keeps twelve amphibian species at the moment, of which two are classified as "Threatened" by IUCN: the blue poison dart frog (Dendrobates azureus) and the Tam Dao newt (Paramesotriton deloustali). Both species can be seen in the "Ark" exhibition, where visitors are also informed of the amphibian crisis.
