Children Ecological Ethics Conference in Kharkiv
On 16 February 2008, Kharkiv Zoo (Candidate for Membership) organised the Children Ecological Ethics Conference. The children that attended the conference were informed on the EAZA Amphibian Campaign and its activities. Kharkiv Zoo has joined the campaign under the motto 'Let’s make an ark for amphibians in Ukraine'.

Children were invited to draw posters based on this theme (see photo below). Some names of the posters are: 'Frogs play an important part in our lives', 'Do not pollute the amphibian habitat!', 'Stop annihilation of toads and frogs!', 'Do not let them go extinct!', 'We too have the right to live!' and 'The world is beautiful. Let’s save it!' The children were also asked to write proposals on what activities and events could be organised within Kharkiv city, the schools and the zoo to make every person aware that the conservation of amphibians is a very important matter.

On the first day of the Children Ecological Conference the zoo started collecting signatures to raise awareness on amphibians. The signatures include those of zoo staff, members of the Young Biologists’ Club of Kharkiv Zoo and conference participants. Representatives of schools and other children have also started spreading the message of the EAZA Amphibian Campaign and are collecting signatures, which they will pass on to Kharkiv Zoo.

Finally, Oleksiy Grygoryev (zoo director) together with Eduard Zvonitsky are planning to publish a new popular science book on amphibians. The zoo hopes it will be a worthy contribution to the promotion of the Year of the Frog Campaign.
