'Indiana Toad and Saviours of the Amphibian Ark' at Blackpool
Blackpool Zoo has joined with Chorley Nissan Car group who have kindly loaned a Fiat Panda car which has been wrapped with images to advertise the Year of the Frog and the EAZA Campaign. This vehicle is used primarily for school and community outreach visits. It is also parked at a prominent location at the front of the zoo when not in use to catch the eye of every zoo visitor as they enter.

During July we have been delivering 'Frogs and Friends' assemblies to local schools and groups in the Blackpool area. Education officer, Paul Bamford along with 'Algernon' the red eyed tree frog hand puppet gave information about amphibians, the problems they face and how zoos are helping out.

We also have our conservation theatre 'Indiana Toad and Saviours of the Amphibian Ark'. This twenty-minutes outdoor theatre is aimed at the general zoo visitor audience who are asked to join Indiana Toad on a field trip to Panama and Mexico to help find the key to the Amphibian Ark. On the way he meets Olivia Newt, Sally Mander, King Chytrid and Keyta Th’Ark (on picture Keyta Th’Ark, Olivia Newt, Indiana Toad, (King Chytrid – at the top), Sally Mander and Farmer Joe) This pantomime style play runs twice daily throughout the summer holidays. It was written with all costume and set designs by Blackpool Zoo’s education department.

We also have fundraising activities over the summer holidays including face painting, badge making, amphibian trails and kids activities. At the end of the holidays we have organised a “Frogs and Friends Family Fun Night” on Thursday 28th August. The evening will include tours of the zoo, kids activities, talks about Amphibian Alarm, a charity auction and buffet.
