Hosted by the Papiliorama Foundation, Switzerland

Coinciding with the International Year of Biodiversity, the EAZA Conservation Forum 2010, hosted by the Papiliorama Foundation in Switzerland, will take place at the Loewenberg Centre close to the Papiliorama Swiss Tropical Gardens.

Key themes for discussion will include:

A special emphasis will be placed on the involvement of local communities in biodiversity conservation and on how conservation success can be measured.

Getting There

The Loewenberg Centre is located close to the town of Murten, about twenty minutes from the Swiss capital, Bern. It is served by a dedicated train station, Muntelier-Löwenberg, where local train services coming from Bern or Neuchatel will stop on demand.

Bern and/or Neuchatel can be reached by direct train services from Zurich and Geneva airports. Basel airport is also quite close, but travellers will need to first get to Basel station by bus or taxi.

There is a small airport close to Bern, but not many flights go there and those that do tend be be expensive.

The Swiss rail system is very efficient and user-friendly. You can search timetables here.

Post-Conference Tour

Delegates wishing to stay on in Switzerland for the weekend might like to consider a tour to the Swiss Alps, with the opportunity to see alpine meadows and, perhaps, the bearded vulture in flight. Those interested should contact Caspar Bijleveld van Lexmond (cbijleveld[at]papiliorama.ch) to discuss the possibilities.

Presentation Submissions

The main themes of the EAZA Conservation Forum 2010 are outlined above. If you wish to submit a proposal to deliver a presentation that relates to one of the themes, please send your proposed title and a short outline of the scope of the presentation to Frank Rietkerk (f.rietkerk[at]apenheul.nl).
