The Segré Scholarships were launched in 2012 alongside the expansion of the EAZA Academy. So far over €3000 has been awarded to 9 successful candidates, enabling individuals to attend a variety of courses from animal enrichment to zoo management. Successful scholarship candidates have come from a range of backgrounds and job roles including education, animal keeping and curatorial.
Segré Scholarships are open to employees of EAZA Members and Candidates for Membership and made possible due to a generous donation from Foundation Segré. The aims of the Segré scholarships are; to promote professional training, support motivated, committed zoo staff to further their skills development, and aid progress of the wider EAZA community. These scholarships are particularly intended to support staff from institutions that would benefit most from this type of financial support.
There are two Segré Scholarships still available for the following EAZA Academy courses offered in 2012:
• Visitor Studies, Chester Zoo, 27-28 August
• Introduction to Zoo and Aquarium Management, Amsterdam, 26-28 November
One scholarship is available for each course and will cover:
• Course fee
• Cost of return airfare, or standard class train or bus travel, or car mileage at €0.45 per mile to the course location (travel arrangements and costs to be agreed before payment is made)
The deadline date for applications is 3 August 2012.
