Even though the EAZA Ape Campaign has officially come to a close some Ape supporters continue to pledge funds in order to keep the EAZA Ape conservation fund alive. The New Adventures of Tarzan series has given the publisher Faber and Faber and author Andy Briggs the chance to work with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) in order to help the conservation of apes in the wild. They are donating 10p from every printed copy of the The Greystoke Legacy and The Jungle Warrior to the EAZA Ape Campaign. So far The Greystoke Legacy has raised a whopping amount of €2509, 56. This money will go towards making a significant and lasting contribution to the continued survival of apes and their habitats. The EAZA Ape Conservation Fund donated to date a total sum of € 279.751 to 13 ape conservation projects in Africa and Asia.
Andy Briggs held the worldwide launch of The Jungle Warrior (July 2012) to kick-start the centenary celebrations of the iconic character Tarzan. Briggs was joined in his home town of Liverpool by 280 young Tarzan fans to celebrate the publication of the book at an event hosted by Formby Books, Merseyside (please see photos attached). This is the second title in The New Adventures of Tarzan series which features Tarzan as a modern-day eco-warrior facing more perils than his original conception could ever imagine. Briggs was given full endorsement from the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate enabling him to push the classic story into new exciting directions. Faber and Briggs will continue to raise awareness and funds with the The Jungle Warrior.
• 'I never saw updating Tarzan as a task, it was a duty. He was my favourite character when I was a child, and I was surprised to discover that he's more relevant now than ever before. Recognised by people aged 9 or 90 he remains a role-model hero and defender of the downtrodden. I hope my new books inspire another hundred years of Tarzan.' Andy Briggs
• 'As a young reader and thrill seeker I used to adore Tarzan, when we were offered the chance to help re-launch him with Andy Briggs I was overjoyed. To be part of such a centenary is unique and I am deeply honoured. I have already seen the impact on the web and with the children who were at Andy's event.' Tony Higginson, Formby Books
• 'The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria Ape Campaign has so far raised over €500,000 and has given out over €250,000 in grants to fund vital ape conservation projects. This could not be done without vital supporters like Faber & Faber.' Dr J Bryan Carroll, Chair of EAZA's Conservation Committee and Ape Campaign
