<div>The Head of Veterinary Services will lead the ongoing development of Durrell’s veterinary department.&nbsp; This includes provision of clinical services for the animal collection, preventative medicine and disease contingency planning, clinical research and management of the department’s staff and facilities. Providing veterinary support to Durrell’s Jersey Based and overseas conservation and training programmes is also a key component of the position.</div>

<div><strong>Reporting to the Head of Animal Collection</strong></div>
<div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>•&nbsp;Lead a team of four including a veterinary surgeon, veterinary nurse and veterinary biologist<br>•&nbsp;Provide day to day veterinary care for the animal collection<br>•&nbsp;Leading the veterinary input of the Trust’s field programmes<br>•&nbsp;Provide a gross pathology service<br>•&nbsp;Lead the department’s research and scientific output<br>•&nbsp;Assist in the training and supervision of visiting students<br>•&nbsp;Contribute to the department’s teaching programmes and help develop training courses<br>•&nbsp;Maintain the highest standards of animal health and welfare and ensure legal compliance in all matters pertaining to the veterinary service</div>
<div><br><strong>Specification</strong></div>
<div>•&nbsp;UK accredited veterinary degree and eligible for registration with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons<br>•&nbsp;Postgraduate qualification in zoological medicine and professional experience of working within a zoological collection<br>•&nbsp;Clinical competency with a wide variety of animals including primates, birds, reptiles and amphibians<br>•&nbsp;Knowledge and understanding of zoo management and of legislative framework pertaining to zoos<br>•&nbsp;Knowledge and experience at managing personnel, budgets and facilities<br>•&nbsp;Experience in pathology and animal health management<br>•&nbsp;Good presentation skills and experience of teaching students<br>•&nbsp;Willingness to travel – often in challenging field conditions<br></div></div>
