Job Description

The Oregon Zoo located in Portland, Oregon is recruiting for a Senior Animal Keeper to work in our elephant program. The ideal candidate will have proven experience leading animal care staff and coordinating day-to-day work area responsibilities. The person in this position will  play a role in advancing area and overall zoo animal care, including safety, health, enrichment and training; keeping the area in top operating and professional condition; and enhancing overall education and experience.

It's an exciting time to join us at the zoo! The passage of a voter supported bond measure has allowed us to design and build new exhibits for elephants, primates, polar bears, hippos, California condors and a new conservation education facility. Our new veterinary center opened in January. The master plan includes a strong focus on water and energy conservation and improved sustainability of all zoo operations.

It’s an especially exciting time in our elephant program. Our current elephant facility will be expanding, and we are studying the feasibility of creating a large off-site elephant facility. We also have a new baby elephant on the way.
If you have at least five years of progressively responsible animal keeper experience and the ability to provide effective staff leadership, consider coming to work with us at the Oregon Zoo.
